How to Play

Play Block Defender online for free. Block Defender is a fusion of a tile merging game and tower defense game. Earn money to pay for blocks by taking out invading red blocks and merging number blocks. The more blocks you have, the more powerful your defenses become.

Starting the Game

On the welcome screen, select Play to begin.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - With your mouse, left click on a cell to lay down a numbered block
  - Touchscreen devices
    - Tap on the screen with your fingers to lay down a numbered block.
    - Controls and indicators
      - Top row (left to right):
        Hamburger button: Exits the game and returns you to the welcome screen
        Score
        Speaker button: Turns the game’s audio on or off
        Bottom row (left to right):
        Speed button: Increases the speed of the wave of red squares
        Remove block button
        Next block
        Upgrade block
        Game Play
        Layout
        The game’s main field is a 5 x 5 grid. Fill the spaces in this grid with block.
        You start with one block already present.
        A track runs round the left, right, and top sides of the square. This is where the red squares travel.
        Basic rules
        The game acts much like a basic tile merging game.
        You receive blocks with the values of 2, 4, and 8.
        Place 2 or more blocks of the same value next to one another to have them merge into a block that’s twice the value.
        Keep merging blocks for as long as you can.
        Each of the blocks act as a turret.
        Red blocks travel around the field from the left to the right. if they reach the right side, it’s game over.
        The numbered blocks you laid down zap each of the red blocks with lasers.
        Red blocks travel in waves.
        As the game progresses, the wave of red blocks gets larger and moves faster.
        They also become harder to take out.
        Because the numbered are just turrets, you will not reach a game over if you fill the entire field with them.
        Scoring
        Each red block you defeat is worth 20 points.
        Money
        You need money to perform most game actions.
        Merging the tiles costs $20.
        You cannot build up your defenses until you’ve taken out enough squares.
        Unlike the other 2 costs, merging tiles will grant you a bonus. In essence, laying down tiles also helps you make money.
        Laying down tiles will always cost you $20.
        Other costs (removing blocks, upgrading blocks) have a ramping expense.
        This makes them not ideal for regular use.
        However, they can be useful in situations where you can’t merge or lay down tiles.
        You earn money by shooting down red squares and merging tiles.
        Tips
        Speeding up the game increases your gather rate of money, but comes with a risk that you get overwhelmed too soon.
        Save the other costs for much later in the game. You’ll need a solid income from taking out enemies to use them effectively.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like simple merging games & basic tower defense games.
        The game has no adult themed content.
